Sea Flower Foundation is an independent environmental nonprofit dedicated to restoring and protecting the lagoon and coral reef ecosystems of Togat Nusa in the Mentawai Islands.
We work in partnership with Toganusa Retreat and the local community to combine conservation, education, and sustainable tourism.
Our foundation leads ongoing coral restoration projects, builds artificial reef structures, monitors marine health, and develops community programs that inspire environmental awareness. In 2023, the lagoon was officially designated as a Marine Protected Area (MPA), and our long-term goal is to expand these conservation methods to nearby villages and coastal communities throughout the Mentawai region.
REEF RESTORATION
We restore damaged coral areas using coral nurseries, coral fragments, and long-term monitoring to help the reef recover naturally
ARTIFICIAL REEF STRUCTURES
We design and build eco-friendly reef structures that increase biodiversity, stabilize sand movement, and create new habitats for marine life.
MARINE MONITORING & EDUCATION
We track water quality, coral health, fish populations, and environmental changes while providing education programs for visitors and local communities
COMMUNITY & SUSTAINABLE TOURISM
We work with local families, schools, and eco-visitors to promote responsible tourism, hands-on conservation, and shared stewardship of the lagoon.
REEF RINGS PROGRAM
Reef Rings are modular artificial reef structures designed to stabilize the lagoon floor, reduce erosion, and create new habitats for coral and marine life.
After testing earlier metal-based structures, Sea Flower Foundation is now developing more durable, eco-friendly cement reef rings adapted to local conditions.
This project serves as a pilot model for reef restoration that can be replicated across other islands and coastal communities in the Mentawai region.

LAGOON PROTECTION & MARINE PROTECTED AREA
The lagoon of Togat Nusa is officially designated as a Marine Protected Area (MPA), ensuring long-term protection from destructive fishing practices and uncontrolled development.
Sea Flower Foundation works closely with local authorities and the community to monitor marine health, protect biodiversity, and maintain the ecological balance of the lagoon while allowing controlled educational and low-impact activities.

COMMUNITY, EDUCATION & VOLUNTEER TRIPS
Sea Flower Foundation develops educational programs and hands-on volunteer experiences that connect visitors, local residents, and conservation practitioners.
Through eco-volunteer trips, workshops, and field activities, participants actively contribute to reef restoration while learning about marine ecosystems, traditional knowledge, and sustainable coastal living.
